Visit of the Norwegian Consul
On Monday we had the honor to welcome the Consul General of Norway in Rio de Janeiro, Marianne Fosland, to our office. Since the beginning of DLW, we have always had a very close relationship with the consulate. Marianne arrived in Brazil in the middle of 2019 and this was her first visit to DLW’s office.
Fourteen years ago, through an initiative of Erik Solheim, former Minister of Development of Norway, Norwegian companies based in Brazil were invited to develop a project that would have a positive social impact on the region. From this initiative, the companies DOF, DNB, DNV-GL, Kongsberg, Jotun and VARD came together to create Dream Learn Work, which has already transformed the lives of more than 1,000 youngsters in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability.
The initial idea was to train young Brazilians so that later the companies themselves could recruit them and insert them in the job market. Nowadays we have several youngsters working at our partner companies, which are no longer limited to our founders, since other Norwegian companies saw that the program was working and wanted to be part of this mission. Moreover, now in 2019, we have partner companies of various nationalities, including Brazilian.
The Consul’s visit to DLW was intended to further strengthen the Norwegian government’s relationship with DLW, and in addition to getting to know the institution better and visiting the administrative headquarters, the Consul also met some of the DLW participants who were here to attend activities and individual follow-ups.
Dream Learn Work thanks the Consulate General of Norway for visiting and wishes Consul Marianne a welcome to Rio de Janeiro.
